Upcoming Events

As my cousin Breanne keeps reminding me, it has been a while since I've written on here. So Breanne, this post is for you!

Since you last heard from me, I've just been keeping busy with my May Term class. I'm taking a math course on Cryptography, and I'm actually enjoying it (It's rare that I really enjoy a math class, so this is pretty amazing)! I don't like the "proof" side of the math, but I think it's fun encrypting and decrypting messages.

So now that this month is coming to a close, there are some exciting events that will take place in the near future, and I would like to share them with you.

  • Tomorrow I take my final exam for Cryptography, at which point I will be done with my junior year of college.
  • My good friend Tejas, who is graduating this year, is throwing a "Roast" party on Friday, and I may make an appearance.
  • Saturday is GRADUATION, which means lots of celebrating and good times!
  • On Sunday, I check out of the dorms and drive back up with Will to his house.
  • Next on the agenda, I spend a lazy, relaxing week at Will's house and get ready for the big trip!
As most of you know, I am leaving a week from Saturday for a trip to France with Will and his dad! It is a two-week trip, and I have been looking forward to this for a really long time.

Don't worry Bree, I plan on updating my blog quite frequently while I'm over there. :)

Earth, Wind & Fire

For Will's graduation present, I bought us tickets to see a Earth, Wind & Fire concert in Indio! I have been keeping it a secret from Will for the past month, and he was very excited when he discovered that he would be seeing one of his favorite bands in concert. Needless to say, it was a lot of fun! This was only the second concert I have ever been to, and it was nice that I knew most of the songs. Will is the one who got me interested in Earth, Wind & Fire!

Before the concert, we had dinner at a nice restaurant located in the Fantasy Springs Casino.

This is where the concert was!

The tickets :)

Waiting for the doors to open...

It was difficult getting good pictures. These ones turned out the best.

What is he doing here?

Right after the concert ended. We were two happy campers!

We probably should have had someone take a picture for us.

Ah, it was a very good night. It was interesting being some of the youngest people there. When the announcer came on stage, he asked "Who here remembers buying the records of Earth, Wind & Fire back in high school or college?" Hahaha...oh man. Records. The band has been around for 40 years, and the man sitting in front of us turned around and said, "40 years! That's a long time!" And yet, I've only been alive for half that time...

Here is a little clip of the show. I took this from my camera, so the quality isn't the best, but you can hear the song. Enjoy!

Mother's Day Weekend

Last weekend was extremely busy, but also turned out to be a lot of fun. There was a different celebration on the 3 days I was home.

On Friday, it was Lori's birthday, so I went straight from Redlands down to my dad's house. Lori wasn't home yet, so my dad suggested we go to K1 Speed, which is a place for indoor go-cart racing. Now, these are not wimpy go-carts that you find at a family fun center. These cars are fast! My dad's wrist was sore, so he took pictures of me racing around the track. There were only two other people in my race, but sadly, I was slower than them. I did, however, improve my best lap time from 29.23 seconds to 27.74 seconds. It may not sound like much of an improvement, but trust me...every millisecond counts! Unfortunately, most of the pictures of me driving ended up being pretty blurry.

Then it was time for the celebration to begin. The whole family went out to dinner (Dad, Lori, Shannon, Tara, Jessica, Ryan, and me), and there was a beautiful view of the ocean from our seat. We went back to the house later for some delicious cupcakes, although sadly Lori couldn't eat them because of the new diet she is on. The night ended with some Frisbee golf on the Wii.

Saturday the other side of my family was celebrating my grandma's, a.k.a Mommu's, 80th birthday. We were at the Chiriboga's house in San Diego, and everyone was there except for Breanne. We ate tons of chips and dip, played Apples to Apples, ate a yummy Mexican dinner, distributed presents, and of course had dessert at the end. I also went in the jacuzzi with my younger cousin Whitney, but for some reason it didn't warm up as much as we would have liked.

Finally, Sunday was of course Mother's Day. This year we went out for brunch at a restaurant in Fallbrook. Everyone enjoyed their meal, and I had cinnamon raisin french toast. How good does that sound? Mmm...

Unfortunately, I don't have any other pictures on my camera other than the racing ones. Maybe I can steal some from other people and get them on here.

Overall, it was a wonderful weekend surrounded by people I love! I couldn't ask for more than that, really.

IT'S BACK!

So remember when I lost my iPod? I was so confused because I was certain I had carried it out of the gym with me. Well, it turns out I am not losing my mind after all! That's right...my iPod has returned to me! I'm slightly embarrassed that I did not find it myself, but the main thing is that it was found. Before I left to go home for the weekend, Will decided he would look in my car to make sure it wasn't there. I led him to my car, certain the search would be a failure. He goes directly to the passenger side door, opens it, and immediately finds the case between the passenger seat and the door! I couldn't believe it. I did not think to look on that side of the car since I obviously was not sitting in that seat. I guess it must have rolled off the passenger seat when I was driving home. Wow. I guess my story did have a happy ending after all.

I had a super busy and fun weekend, which I will write about at another time. I just wanted to tell everyone the wonderful news!

iPod Blues

Story time, boys and girls!

Yesterday was my day off from class, so I thought I would be a good girl and go to the gym. I usually go to a step aerobics class on Saturday mornings, but since it was a Wednesday in the middle of the day, I just went for the elliptical machine. I brought my iPod for some good music while I worked out. Things were good...I was getting exercise, listening to my favorite music, and reading the captions on some t.v. show that was in front of me. After 45 minutes, it was time to leave. I put my iPod away in the brown pouch I keep it in, grabbed all my belongings, and left.

I wish that was the end of the story. Sadly, this story does not have a happy ending. I was driving back to school (which is only 5 minutes away), and suddenly I realized that I could not see the little pouch my iPod was in. Starting to worry, I turned the car around and went back to LA Fitness. I retraced all my steps from my parking spot to the machine I worked out on, but found nothing. I went to the front desk and asked about it, but no one had turned anything in. Extremely disappointed, I went back to school.

I do not know what happened from the time that I left the elliptical machine to the time I got into my car, but I do know that is when my iPod went missing. It's possible I left it at the machine, or perhaps I dropped it on my way out. Either way, I think someone must have taken it. *SIGH* I bought that iPod when I was a senior in high school, and a lot of the music on there is not on my iTunes. I will also sorely miss waking up to the sound of music from my iPod.

I am trying not to get too upset about my situation (after all, is an iPod really so important that I can't live without it?), but I can't help but feel a bit of disappointed.

Lesson learned: If you're going to take a valuable item with you to a public place such as the gym, DOUBLE and TRIPLE check that you have it when you leave!

cout << "Hello World!" << endl;

I finally got around to creating a personal blog. I really enjoy reading my friends' blogs, especially those who I do not see very often. So hopefully, they can also find some joy in following the events in my life.

I really don't know how to start a blog, so bare with me as I sum up my life in a nutshell:
  • I am finishing up my junior year at the University of Redlands.
  • I am majoring in computer science, and minoring in math (this should explain the post title).
  • I turn 21 in August, and I have never had an alcoholic beverage (a lot of people seem to have trouble understanding this).
  • I love cats! I would become a crazy (coding) cat lady if given the chance.
  • I was born and raised in Southern California, and I love it!
  • I used to hate traveling, but now I'm becoming more fond of it. Outside the U.S., I've been to England, Scotland, and Japan. (France is coming up in a month!)
  • My family and friends mean a lot to me. I am lucky to have such wonderful people in my life.
  • I also happen to be pretty fond of my boyfriend, Will. Two and a half years, and still going strong!
  • I will always love and and remember my sister, Sarah Marie.
  • I'm ready to see what life has in store for me. A lot will change after I graduate next year...
I'm sure the people who are reading this already know most or all of this information, but maybe it will be fun to go back in a year and see how my life has changed. I shall now leave you with this adorable picture that makes me smile:
